Opt-Out

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

     2023-2024 Annual Term: 08/01/2023 to 09/15/2023

     2024 Spring/Summer Term: 10/01/2023 to 01/18/2024


Waiver Criteria for Opting Out of SHIP

 If you have other health insurance, such as coverage under your parent’s or employer’s insurance plan, and you do not wish to enroll in SCI-Arc's Student Health Insurance Plan, you may opt out, but only if the benefits under your existing coverage include all of the following:

  • Coverage must be continuous (no break or termination) for the entire academic year;
  • Maximum benefit must be unlimited;  
  • Deductible must be $1,000 or less per Policy Year;
  • International students must have at least $25,000 in repatriation coverage and $50,000 in medical evacuation coverage; and
  • Claims must be paid by a U.S.-based company, and underwriting company must be owned, operated, and headquartered in the U.S. and must be in full compliance with all applicable federal laws.
